Strong winds slows down the migration, Fly Flatts(permit only)

Not many of these at Fly Flatts
                                           1 of 4 Raven
                                                 Peregrine fly- past.

This is the second in a week and not a tree in sight.
                                                 8 Wheatear present.

A nice bird to have around, Short Eared Owl.

Dont look at me like that !!

  • A real autumn type morning at 8 degrees on a moderate SW>5 increasing to SW>6 by late afternoon. Near full cloud cover with a few blue patches.
  •                                               Much quieter today with the wind shutting the job down and very little moving. Two squadrons of Starlings came over the water in migration mode in their usual direction of >NW, very early for Starlings to be moving.
  •                                          At least 8 Wheatear were present on the west bank but another gull less day other than 3 very raggy LBBs in moult and a single ad Herring on the water. A Peregrine gave a fly over whilst 4 Raven were over the quarry where the owner tells me they all come down to share his sandwiches with him daily.
  •                                         The Short Eared Owl gave a quick display but struggling in the wind so soon dropped down into the moor and out of sight.
