With pockets of fog down in the valley throughout the day it was inevitable that it would move upwards later in the day which it did late afternoon planting a massive fog bank right on the top of Fly Flatts.
On arrival at 1450 hrs the visibility was down to 30 yards with drizzle on a light SW>3 at 3 degrees but feeling much milder.
With no visibility on the water or to the sky I was left with a walk along the west bank in conditions which were good for a grounded Bunting or Lark, neither of which transpired ,but a good walk and always worth the effort.
Lower down by the Crossroads pub the skies were clear with around 50 small gulls in the field opposite and around 80 in a field opposite the refuse recycling centre on Balkram Edge . A quick check of Mixenden reservoir just produced 2 female Goldeneye and several small gulls.
Two weeks three days now to the shortest day.
