With low cloud on the tops late afternoon I ended up at Ogden in atrocious conditions with heavy rain and sleet throughout on a NE > 4. The low cloud base was just above the pines.
With an uninviting low water level for birds the only species on and around the water were the usual resident Mallards and approximately 50 small gulls, 75% being Black Headed.
Way too dark in the conditions to check for passerines so stuck to the promenade area for the rest of the short visit. Two female Goosander flew over heading for the Thornton Moor roost whilst a Green Woodpecker was very vocal in the wood by the car park.
Down in the sluice gate area a Heron was stood by one of the square ponds whilst a Dipper and Grey Wagtail were below the pump house but no signs of the Kingfisher.
By 1530 hrs it was near to an early lights out so just time to check the car park passerine roost which comprised of around 50 Goldfinch but no signs of Chaffinch or Brambling as yet. Hopefully a bit drier tomorrow.
