Another day, another soaking. Fly Flatts.

A good year for Short Eared Owls

                                           1 of 4 Kestrels present
Weather conditions today at Fly Flatts were a near duplicate of the last two visits with a strong wind, this time from the west with a W >4 , 100% dark cloud cover and drizzle piling across the moor turning to torrential rain.
A thorough scan of  all the shoreline found no trace of any waders, as reported by DJS this morning, and very little else present.
Canada geese are now down to around a dozen out of nearly 400 at the end of the breeding season which will please the sailors who can now put away the jet wash although the water is so low now its unlikely they will be able to launch with the new floating jetty up on dry land.
The water is so low now that if it was,nt for the soft mud you would be able to wade across it.
Up to 5 Wheatear were dotted around the area and a Short Eared Owl was picked up sheltering on the moor out of the westerly wind. Otherwise it was the usual species .
Going by the forecast I,m in for another soaking tomorrow but it must be getting back to my turn for another supply of waders.
