Fly Flatts 0700-0830 hrs in an icy NE>4 with dark clouds but dry and the wind much less than yesterday.
Fly Flatts made a fool of me today by producing very little in the way of birds other than the usual sp. Several more Mipits have arrived overnight but still not a Wheatear at the usual hotspot areas. After one and a half hours trudging round I decided to drive round in search of Wheatears checking along the top road, Nab Water Lane, Paul Clough , Cold Edge, Nolstar, Mixenden res, Ned Hill track and Raggalds Flood.
No Whoopers or Wheatear at any of the sites and very little else.
The Skylark field at Nolstar was void of birds other than a flock of Starlings and not a Skylark in sight whilst Raggalds Flood held 2 Redshank which were very mobile using the fields to the left and right of the water.
So back home with and empty camera and notebook but thats birding, all ups and downs and never disappointing because you know you,ve been out there and checked so you,ve to put it behind you and get on with the next session.
I,ve added my Fly Flatts species list to a link page on the right so after a poor session I can look through and see whats possible up there.
