Herring gulls on the move
A disappointing morning at Fly Flatts with the first hour of daylight wasted through low cloud and banks of fog moving >SE bringing drizzle and light rain. By 0900 hrs the sky cleared with some sun and blue skies.
Bird wise it was very quiet with just 28 Mallards on the water , 1pr Stonechat near the feeding station and several Red Grouse.
Herring gulls were bird of the morning with a count of 137 over , most very high and >NE coinciding with a report from KM remarking a winter influx of Herrings locally with Keith logging around 12,000 Herrings so far within a 4 mile radius of Thornton.
Yesterdays odd Herring gull amounted to just that , a bit of an odd looking bird but Herring gull never the less.
Also a report this morning from AC with 250 Herring gulls >N over Northowram.
