Short lived sunrise
Lighting up the moor
Early dawn on the water.
Herring gulls piling over >SW
Home to Fly Flatts in time for Christmas with a bright start but strong WSW>5 but as always at Fly Flatts the weather is unpredictable and by 0915 the wind had increased to near gale WSW>7 with horizontal drizzle across the moor but after the snow and fog I,m not complaining.
Herring gulls were the bird of the day with a count of 121 >SW into the wind but this move stopped as the weather closed in. As the rain started a flock of 19 Fieldfare came over high and >NE. A Peregrine was the only other bird in the sky whilst a pair of Tufted were on the water and several Red Grouse on the moor.
Hardy Stonechats had battled through the bad weather with 3 present near the boat house so a decent morning and good to be able to get back to Fly Flatts.
