1530 hrs Fly Flatts. W>4 with 75 % cloud cover and some sunshine. Luckily more grey sky than blue.
Much more workable today with the wind eased to force 4 so managed to check the full length of the reservoir along the west bank as well as scope the east shoreline.
Common Sandpipers were everywhere with several young waiting to be fed. Due to very little shoreline this species has had to adapt to nesting on the edges of the moor away from the water.
Amazing to see just how many birds are on the moor when 4 Herring gulls flew over Redshank, Curlew, Lapwing, Common Sandpiper and Dunlin lifted up out of the heather to see the gulls clear.
A juv Pied Wagtail was on the shoreline closely watched by the 2 adult birds whilst a Raven flew high over the wind turbines.
Disappointingly the skies were quiet but thats June for you although there were plenty Swifts moving through skimming the water.
A rough goose count came up with 28 Greylag + 18 juvs and 278 Canadas with 57 juvs but many more in the fields along the top road.
