An afternoon at Fly Flatts in a strong E>5 and dark skies failed to produce the target bird of Black, Common or Arctic Tern , nor did the previous days Whinchat show.
On the plus side a wave of Swallows through >N below the shelter of the Nab had a single Swift with them whilst the pair of Greenland Wheatear were still present though mobile on the moor.
About 8 Northern Wheatear were present an 6 Common Sandpipers along with 4 Redshank.
A quick stop at Norstar on the way back saw the 3 Dotterel together but very distant and soon settled down in a bed of reeds out of sight.
Good to meet and have a word with the lovely Vicki J at last and HC turned up just in time to see them. Howard later reported 6 Raven over Fly Flatts and 2 Dunlin present at the north end.
Fireman Craig reported 7 Oystercatchers at Mixenden reservoir this afternoon which must be a record for there. Even though they were cutting the banking the birds never moved.
