If you,re going to dip you may as well do it right instead of half a job so today I completed my hat trick of 3 dips in 3 days. Redcar Tarn (Keighley) mid afternoon and no sign of the Iceland gull after 2 hrs scrolling through the mass of gulls, large and small.
Never the less an enjoyable outing being in amongst the big gulls at close quarters. If you like gulls and wildfowl this is a must to visit as ,unlike reservoirs, you can study gulls close up either on the water or surrounding fields and if the weather is poor you dont even have to get out of the car to check the water.
The only problem here is you get half way through checking the gulls out when a bread lobber appears and the whole shebang hits the air but thats when the flight shots come in.
Gulls present were :-
Herring, each year from juv to adult
Lesser Black Backed
Common
Black Headed
Tufted x 11
1pr Goosander
4 Snipe
83 Lapwing
+ usual ducks, geese etc
If you dont like gulls look no further.
