A real horror of a day in Queensbury with overnight snow continuing throughout the day but only lightly leaving a thin covering but this along with thick fog didn,t help the job.
1500 hrs and down below the cloud base to Mixenden reservoir where visibility was good but a strong NE>5 with driving icy rain and sleet sweeping across the water.
A circuit of the water found 2 Goldcrests and a pair of Bullfinch in the water side trees on the west shore whilst around 40 small gulls, mainly Black Headed , along with 1 LBB were moving between the water and the east shore.
The water was quiet other than 2 female Goldeneye until 27 noisy Canadas came over Hunter hill to land on the water, presumably before heading off for Ogden to roost.
Word from the Yorkshire east coast was that the good numbers of White Fronted geese are all leaving and heading NW meaning, that direction, plus the strong NE winds forecast for tomorrow, should send them over our area. Whether they continue over or some drop down is anybodys guess depending on the conditions but worth a check of your local water and surrounding fields just in case. Snow Buntings are also on the move with one above Todmorden B.L. (grapevine news) , so next week could be the week.
Not the best of forecasts for tomorrow with more snow and lower temperatures but the increase in wind speed should move the fog on.
A nice Grey Wagtail in the garage car park this morning, I dont know what spooked it but it flew round the corner missing hitting me by about 3 inch.
