One of these visits I,m going to get a reward from Soil Hill but its just taking a little longer than expected. 1500 hrs today in a brisk, cold WNW > 6 but clear and the last of the sun.
The male Reed Bunting was down on the Nyjer on the east summit then appeared from a small reed bed in the mounds making me wonder how it had got past me without me seeing it. This was soon resolved when I had 2 male Reed Bunts in sight, one still on the mounds and the other flitting around the small tree by the cattle grid. I suspected this earlier in the week but could not be sure.
2 Red Legged Partridge flushed from the edge of the west summit , obviously getting away from the saddo gunmen whose fun time is nearly over now as the end of the season draws near, whilst 8 Mallard were down on the NK pond.
Mipits, Carrion Crows and Starlings concluded the sightings.
Thanks to Mark Murrays report of Woodcock and Nuthatch at Ogden, 2 species which have been keeping their heads down this year.
Around 150 Lapwing were present on the Pit Lane pitches but no Goldies.
