A bird we,ve missed this winter

             Waxwings   Foxhill Park  2013

                                          Waxwings off to roost 2013

Another winter goes by with no local Waxwings even though berry crops were plentiful this year.
Probably milder winters are the reason for the lack of this amazing bird now absent in any numbers since the winter of 2012/2013 when Waxwings were everywhere from November 2012 until the end of April 2013.
During that period Rowan berries were scarce so the birds were forced into gardens taking Cotoneaster berries as a replacement.
Foxhill park held good flocks as well as gardens around Foxhill and I even managed to tempt a flock of 14 into my front garden for apples stuck on garden canes as well as taking Hawthorn berries.
The Waxwings hang around until the end of April but I think we can safely say this year has been another dip.

A lousy wet and windy day throughout today with nothing reportable around.
