A local gem

The lousy photos don,t do the Barn Owl justice.
Well out of range and last light but what a bird.

Up to about 12 months ago if you wanted to see a Barn Owl you had to head north towards York but things are changing fast.
Over the last year more and more local reports are coming in from several locations around our area of the Barn Owl, a bird I thought I,d never see local.
Late afternoon today in decent conditions I set off with the above target bird in mind and eventually I was lucky enough to get a few seconds sighting of it.
I stood in the icy cold wind for 1 hour watching and listening to a very vocal Little Owl before eventually, as the light was fast fading, it appeared and was going to quarter a field when a group of walkers came trudging right across the area sending the bird briefly into a tree before disappearing not to be seen again.
Who would have believed it, our own Barn Owls, what next ?
