After DJSs reports on the Ringby Top Twite I,ve had a few e mails asking about them , where to find them and ID issues so after replying to them I thought I,d put some photos up of Twite I,ve taken in previous years. A scarce bird in my area now whereas a few years ago I was recording good numbers with 70 + Oxenhope, up to 30 Fly Flatts, around 20 Leeshaw and several sighting of 2 to 3 Soil Hill.
Were always available at Fly Flatts
Soil Hill bird
Nice red rumped male
Always attracted to the Nyjer seed
Red rump gives away the males
One I came across and threw in for Tracy
She loves deer. Roe Deer.
Most Twite will now have headed to the coast to over winter but hopefully next spring will see a return to the area.
A grey day up here in the gods but managing to keep fine till late afternoon when the drizzle set in followed by mist after dark.
Several LBB gulls came over last light along with 3 Herrings all heading for the Oxenhope roost
( members only) where I,m told there are around five and a half thousand birds roosting there now and this number will rise over winter as long as the water does,nt freeze over.
