3 Drake Common Scoter + 1 of 2 juv Gt Crested Grebe
Why do they always settle dead centre of the water
Peacefully minding their own business
Along comes an angry juv grebe
Lots of commotion
Splits up the group
1 legs it but lands again
NOTHING IN THE BOOKS SHOWING WHITE UNDERWING ???
A second juv GCG harrasses the gulls
Thanks to a call at mid day from Keith Moir we were able to enjoy 3 more drake Common Scoters on Ogden which luckily remained until I could get there at 1600hrs although ,as usual, they were out in the centre of the water out of range for any decent shots.
Also present were 2 juv and 1 ad Gt Crested Grebe and 3 Cormorant as well as the usual small gulls.
The Scoters were getting fidgety as I left looking as if they were ready for moving.
Well done to NK,DP and JL who got straight up there to see the birds. See Nigels and Bradshaw Johns reports.
I remember the day when 30 + birders would have turned up to see Scoters but those days seem to have gone.
