A real icy start to the morning with cars frozen over and black ice on the roads up here on the tops this morning but a bright clear sunny day followed with more freezing after dark in a moonlit starry sky.
A few Redwing contact calls were heard this evening whilst dog walking over the Mountain and a Little Owl screeched near the old underground reservoir.
Lunch time found empty skies although a skein of 200 Pink Footed geese were reported >W over Calderdale at 11.20 hrs, see Calderbirds.
Common gull numbers were back to single figures after yesterdays boost in Foxhill park whilst 3 Pied Wagtails were moving around the football pitches.
A phone call today from a customer reported his dog flushing a Woodcock at Oats Royd whilst on the top of the Gulf, a hotspot up there from years ago along with breeding Grey Partridge but not anymore, lets hope they return.
Well, only 3 more days to the Winter Solstice, or the shortest day, so we can slowly start creeping back into lighter evenings. The Hebden Bridge lot will be up at the Fly Flatts sacrifice stones this Saturday for sunrise/sunset.
