Wheatears on the way back through

                                       Fly Flatts Wheatear

Fly Flatts, early evening visit
In an attempt to find a cooling breeze I harnessed the dogs and headed for Fly Flatts after tea prompted by a call from DJS to report 2 Wheatear there along with Twite.,.Calderbirds.
It was still unusually warm up there but a NW>4 made it bearable and sure enough the first bird seen was a returning Wheatear near the northern ponds. The bird was distant in poor light and in some positions it looked like a juv but in others an adult moulting into autumn plumage. I think the speckled chest puts it as a young.
The only birds at the feeding station were Linnets gulping Daves Nyjer seed with no sign of the Twite.
Other birds present were the usual Common Sandpipers, Oystercatchers, Snipe, Redshank and tons of Canadas and Greylag.
