Passerine Alley
Chaffinch collecting caterpillars
A poor day with a cool wind and constant threat of rain until late afternoon when the temperature shot up and the sun shone in a clear blue sky.
A quick evening visit to Ogden to check the water for early July goodies proved fruitless though a pleasant walk round finding Chaffinch still feeding young , 7 Canadas on the water with about a dozen Mallard but strangely no Warblers even though it was calm and warm with plenty flies around. The Willow Warbs are either busy at the nest or have already started to disperse.
3 Curlews flew over very high and >SW.
Ned Hill produced a Kestrel being mobbed by several young Starlings whilst Raggalds flood held 1pr Pied Wagtails + 1 juv and a single male Grey Wagtail. Three Lapwings were at the edge of the mud.
