A deteriorating day with a dull dry start but not long before the rain appeared slowly getting heavier throughout the day with heavy rain and fog by early evening.
I think by now we can safely say that its too late for our local reservoirs to show enough shoreline to attract migrant waders so hopefully places like Soil Hill will be tempting enough to entice them down as a stopping off place to break their journey.
Over the last few years Greenshank and Green Sandpiper have been scarce and although Green Sand has never been an easy bird around our area Greenshank used to be common a few years ago with birds always around our reservoirs during July/August.
With Soil Hill summit pretty much undisturbed now and some decent scrapes, as long as the water holds, all we have to do is get up there regular and wait.
Hopefully the call will come through one of these mornings from hawkeye Nigel K reporting the above plus a Blackwit and Barwit thrown in for good measure. One has to dream doesnt one!
