NOTE !!

Fly Flatts/ Cold Edge Dams

Two Pink Footed Geese at Cold Edge Dams.

Nice to see them on the ground instead of black
               dots in the sky.
                          Distant in the rain

1500 hrs. Heavy rain and drizzle blasting across the moor on a strong W>5-6 with banks of mist and fog.Fly Flatts was near unworkable in the poor visibility and horizontal rain but clear periods when it was possible to check the water which held the 2 Barnacle geese from yesterday along with 5 Canadas, otherwise the area was deserted.
Cold Edge Dams was equally as wet but a touch less windy and below the cloud base.
Leadbeater Dam held 1pr Tufted , 15 Mallard and 7 BH gulls whilst Haigh Cote dam was void of bird life. I gave Spring Mill Dam a miss with the rain now pounding down but a check on the bottom mill dam produced just 1 Heron.
The goose field held 28 Canadas , 9 Mallards and interestingly 2 Pink Footed Geese obviously left behind from Tuesdays big move and now waiting for a break in the weather to continue their journey to the west coast. These geese were seen earlier in the afternoon by PJWS who kindly text me about them.
If the forecast is right for tomorrow, theres a first time for everything, we could get a move of Whoopers over the area with a report of 9 on Barden reservoir today along with an Osprey sitting in a tree top which has to come our way at some point.
