An hour to kill after dinner and the dogs to walk so off for a once around Ogden which was extremely quiet even with the wind dropped and temperature up.
Another brood of 8 Mallard ducklings looking very vulnerable with Crows, LBB gulls and Herons in the area, lets hope they,re lucky.
Otherwise it was down to the usual with plenty Willow Warblers, Robins and Wrens but no Blackcap or Garden Warbler.
Several Swallows were feeding over the water whilst Swifts moved >NE high up in the blue sky.
1530 hrs and back to Fly Flatts on a beautiful evening with wall to wall sunshine and a light NE>3.
Swifts were piling through >NE along with Swallows and a few House Martins but still no Sand Martin. Lapwings were active , annoyed at my presence , with 1 very young chick dashing across the track in front of me then crouching down thinking it was invisible.
A walk the length of the west bank found several waders acting like new in birds , very fidgety and not letting you get within 50 yards of them, with 14 Common Sandpiper and 5 Redshank. Several scoped on the east bank could have been some of the same birds, but no Dunlin tonight. Two fly over Snipe and 3 Oystercatcher brought the wader total to 6 species if you include Curlew and Lapwing.
Golden Plover were calling from the moor but the Nolstar field was again deserted.
Several LBB gulls patrolling the moor and 2 sub adult Herring gulls >NE but not a Tern in sight.
It must be my Tern soon.
