Thar she blows, The windy village.

A deserted Shelf Moor trailer field

The old chapel and juncus field
         Plenty Snipe sheltering in here

A wild night last night and the wind increasing again today as the day went on reaching a SW>7 gusting 8 this evening as I walked the dogs playing dodge the wheelie bins. Several fences were down and one or two roofing slates in the road although this is only a stiff breeze for Queensbury.
I remember when I was a lad at home many moons ago a February wind ripped up our garden fence and stuffed it through the house bay window in the middle of the night.
Mi Dad went out to get some wood to board it up and the wind picked him up and slammed him through the fence into the hen pen which I found funny but he did,nt get the funny side of it, no sense of humour my Dad.
Mi old Grandad used to say " You can tell Queensbury fellows cos when they get off the bus in town they fall over trying to lean into the wind, and you can tell Queensbury lasses cos they all have big calf muscles with pushing the prams uphill int wind".

Right, back to birds.
A real gull morning with big gulls moving between the two weather fronts mainly heading >W and >NW with several Lesser Black Backed early doors then Herring gulls taking over late morning.
Two Great Black Backed were seen from Foxhill at lunch time heading >N up the Aire Valley over Thornton.

A dinner time dash down to the Shelf Moor trailer field was a disappointment with 2 Lapwing and a few Starlings in the horse field and 1 Snipe flushed from the top of the horse field by the stable lad which flew across and settled in the juncus field.
