Just one of those not to be trips this tea time.
The wind was still howling from the west but dry so first stop was the trailer park to check on NKs Wheatears from earlier in the day. All gone and the field deserted.
Next was Raggalds Flood only to find the Redshanks again absent from this morning. These birds are playing a real cat and mouse game only seeming to show up late mornings and early evenings.
The resident Lapwings seem to have moved on.
Thinking it would be highly unlikely to have two bad visits to Soil Hill in one weekend off I went, camera in hand and tongue in cheek to search the hill. After a full search, west to east and top to bottom I found it is possible to have two consecutive bad visits.
No sign of Ouzels and only a few Mipits and Skylarks showing other that 5 Mallard on the NK pond and 3 on the track pond as well as 4 Lapwings.
The disaster was saved slightly with a single Wheatear on the mounds and 3 swallows battling into the wind.
