Several finches were on the move this morning , mainly Chaffinch but a few Green and Gold mixed in.
The birds seemed to come up from the old station, probably from an overnight stop over , and all headed >S over the garage between 0745 and 0830hrs.
Otherwise thing have been quiet with the weather deteriorating throughout the day and on the evening dog walk tonight the wind was up to near gale force with driving rain, much to my discomfort.

Good to get a few finches going through this morning up there. I just managed a flock of c20 Goldfinch, but I think they were 'local' rather than movers.
I often wonder how the birds go on - roosting in bad weather. Finches and thrushes probably find some shelter in a plantation or shrubberies etc but what about the Twite and Mipits - do they just sit it out on a sogging wet moor or get in a stone wall or quarry - or what. Any thoughts?
Both species just seem to be happy squat down in heather or especially the large clumps of grass which I suppose keeps them off the wet ground but I think that they are a lot hardier than we imagine.
