The Breeding Season

As from now until the end of the breeding season birds of a sensitive nature will be omitted from this blog due to a small percentage of undesirables who take their pleasure from egg collecting, nest destroying and the killing and trapping of birds.
Reports of non breeding birds moving through the area will still be published. BS

Soil Hill Search

Still on stand by at Ovenden Moor

Late pm visit , mist and rain , brightening, SSW>4

Never thought Id say this but it was nice to be up Soil Hill in the rain seeing it falling on the moor and easing the job for the firefighters slightly.
Rushed Lynda around Morrisons tonight to get back and scour the hill for Dotterel seeing as birds have been at Ilkley by the 12 Apostles but none to be found, at least I was happy that Id checked it just for peace of mind.
Apart from 9 Skylark and a few Meadow Pipits the hill was void of birds .
I see from Calderbirds blog that Fly Flatts continues to be our areas answer to Blacktoft with a second Bar Tailed Godwit and a Sanderling, it just goes to show that all we need is shoreline. Hopefully the heavy rain forecast for the weekend doesnt top it up too much.
A report today from D Pinder that Swifts are now arriving back at their breeding site at Hewenden viaduct, Denholme, thanks for that Dave.
