A strange coincidence

                                   Red Skies over Foxhill tonight.

A bright day with a cool N>3 but warm in the sunshine. Early morning had cloudless blue skies with several Mipits over >S but very high still coming over till after midday.
As I was closing up the garage this evening at 1710 hours a quick look around for Pinkies found a single Bunting overhead heading >N in the direction of Soil Hill. Although I had no bins I could see it clearly very light underneath and unlike Reed Bunting its wings were longer than its short knotched tail. Unfortunately the bird never called, or not that I heard for the traffic, but my immediate thought was Lap Bunt although I had to dismiss it as one that got away.On the way home I had that knattered feeling you,ve all had when you think you,ve had a goody but can,t be sure and then to make it worst I got the grapevine call from DJS reporting a possible Lap Bunt over Soil Hill picked up on call by JW. If  JW had just got the bird and the message was put straight out it was probably one and the same ?
Was it or was,nt it,  we,ll never know.

Now that WAS a co-incidence! Who will ever know but great to think the bird may well have just followed the ridge on to Soil Hill from the garage watchpoint. Now that must have made your evening Bri and set you up for the weekend. Never know you might get another as there has been so many in the country this year. Have you seen DJP's photo of the one over Beacon Hill yesterday - how did he get a shot like that - fantastic.

I wish I'd never read this because now I will have to spend all winter searching the seeded area of hell's pinnacle for such a juicy morsel.

As you say Dave, that photo is amazing, dont know how he managed it, I had my camera in my pocket but it all happened in about 30 secs.
We,ll soon be trekking up Ringby and as Nigel says he,s volunteered to check Soil Hill daily through winter which is a kind thought then he can tell us when to go up there.
Before you reply to this Nigel remember its a public blog and swearing is barred!
